The State Of Play event this week might not be talking about PS5 but that doesn’t mean you have to wait till September for more news.
Sony announcing a new State Of Play showcase and then saying it won’t say anything important about the PlayStation 5 is one of the stranger turns in the ongoing saga to unveil the next gen consoles, but the chances are it won’t be the only Sony event this month.
According to a report by Bloomberg, a PlayStation 5 focused event is ‘tentatively scheduled’ for some time later this month, at which, presumably, the price and release date will be announced.
It’s certainly hard to imagine Sony waiting much longer to reveal the most important details about the console, given that it’s likely to be released in November.
Although Sony can easily blame it on the pandemic, the real reason for the lack of information, particularly on pricing, is that they don’t want to announce first and be immediately undercut by Microsoft.
Microsoft don’t want the same thing to happen to them either, which has led to the two companies playing a game of low-speed chicken, with both readily admitting that they’re waiting for the other to go first.
Although they haven’t announced a specific date either, Microsoft is also believed to be planning a new reveal event his month.
Apart from the price and date they are also yet to announce the much-leaked Xbox Series S ‘Lockhart’ console, believed to be the equivalent to the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
