The one Internet sensation that Nintendo never wanted is trending on porn sites, with searches up 5,849% in one day.

Before we start, don’t panic. We’re not going to link to a porn site and… none of this is going to make any sense. So it’s not just you.

The first obvious question is who is Bowsette? She’s not an official Nintendo character but a fan art creation by webcomic author Haniwa, inspired by Peachette from the recently announced New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe game for Switch.

Peachette is pretty weird as it is, since she’s a new character that Toadette transforms into in the game by obtaining an item called the crown mushroom. Why she does this and why the game doesn’t just feature the actual Princess Peach is a mystery – one fans have sought to explain with Bowsette.

The idea is that Princess Peach picks up the same item that transforms her into a hybrid of Bowser, complete with horns and a more voluptuous look.

Whatever you do we’d advise you not to search for the name ‘Bowsette’, especially when you’re at work, because a lot of the pictures are borderline, if not actually, pornographic.

Which brings us to the porn site. According to YouPorn (don’t worry the link is safe for work) searches for the term Bowsette went from zero to hero at the beginning of the week, with an increase of 2,900% on Monday and 5,849% the next day.

Pornhub (also a safe link) has reported a similar rise in interest, with searches starting on September 23 and rising to over half a million in just 72 hours.

What exactly they expected to find we’re not sure, but you’ve got to pity the poor pornstar that now has to dress up in horns and a turtle shell.

Nintendo, as you can imagine, has tried to distance themselves as much as possible from the phenomenon, although they did go so far as to issue the following statement:

‘Concerning the drawings and other things uploaded to the Internet, we have no comment.’

It can’t have been an easy few weeks for Nintendo though. First Donald Trump’s penis gets compared to Toad and now Princess Peach has become a sex idol. We dread to think what’s next…
