Mafia Trilogy remasters teased by 2K in first trailer

News about a Mafia 2 remaster has leaked out multiple times before, but it seems as if 2K are planning remasters of all three games.

We’ll warn you right now, that the video above is basically an announcement of an announcement and doesn’t specifically say what the Mafia Trilogy is. But it doesn’t exactly take a made man to guess.

Something called Mafia 2: Definitive Edition has been leaked and teased a number of times, by the age rating boards in South Korea, Taiwan, and Brazil, implying the game will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Stadia.

Mafia 3: Definitive Edition has also been leaked in a similar manner, but there’s never been any specific word on the first game. Although that does seem to be it at the start of the teaser trailer.

The name Mafia Trilogy implies some sort of compilation so whether these remasters are going to be sold separately or all-in-one remains to be seen, with publisher 2K promising to reveal all on Tuesday, 19 May at 5pm BST.

The first Mafia came out as long ago as 2002, by Illusion Softworks, who become 2K Czech for Mafia 2, and then were merged with new studio Hangar 13 for Mafia 3.

You can see Hangar 13’s logo at the end of the teaser, so presumably they’re still involved, and you’d imagine all this is a prelude to Mafia 4, although there doesn’t seem to be any hint of that in the teaser itself.

The games have been slowly moving though the years as they’ve gone on, with Mafia 3 being set in the late 60s. Whether they’d jump from there straight to the present day is impossible to guess at, but we certainly wouldn’t object to more period pieces.
