Ver. 1.2.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now and it brings with it Leif the sloth and Redd the dodgy art dealer.
Despite it being Earth Day yesterday, Animal Crossing’s equivalent of the event has only just started but it’s brought with it some major changes to the game, and all for free.
Nature Day, as it’s called, will run until Monday, 4 May and sees Leif the sloth appear in New Horizons for the first time. Although it’s possible he may now make semi-regular appearances on the forecourt of the Resident Services building, even after Nature Day has finished.
Leif will buy weeds from you for 20 bells per clump (which still isn’t that profitable) but his main role is to sell rare plants and, for the first time in the game, shrubbery.
What is Nature Day in in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Exactly what he’s selling probably depends on your island but we got three packets of differently-coloured lily seeds, which we’ve never seen before, and two varieties of azalea and tea olive shrubs.
It’s quite difficult to find all the different flowers unless you visit friends, so it’s probably going to be the same with the new varieties that Leif is now selling.
That’s not all the changes that Nature Day has brought though, as there’s currently a special on Nook Miles+, the usual daily rewards scheme.
You now get up to five times the normal rewards for completing tasks and if you hit an unspecified target then Tom Nook is promising an, equally unspecified, ‘special prize’.
What does the Ver. 1.2.0 update do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
All you used to get on Nature Day in previous games is a globe or similar but you also get that now , as you should find Nintendo has sent you a world map in the post to put on the wall.
It can’t be a coincidence but we were also told that interest rates had lowered at the bank and were sent a special rug as compensation, which is presumably part of the balancing ‘issues’ addressed in the typically vague patch notes below.
Ver. 1.2.0 General updates
- The following visiting merchants can now visit the island.
- Leif (gardening shop)
- Redd (Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler)
- Added seasonal events.
- Addressed issues to further ensure an enjoyable gaming experience.
How do you find Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
The final addition brought by this update is Redd the fox and his Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler. We haven’t seen him yet but we imagine he’ll randomly appear somewhere around the coast from now on.
If you go to the museum, then Blathers will talk about opening up a new art gallery and invite you to gift him artwork to display; so it’s just a case of running into Redd, buying some art, and hoping it doesn’t turn out to be fake.
Nature Day is only the first of several free updates and events promised for New Horizons over the summer, with the return of Rover, weddings, and more promised over the next few months.
